WHAT IS FACIAL OIL? DOES IT CAUSE PIMPLES?

Facial oils had significant importance in skincare from the ancient times.Passing decades, facial oils are becoming an indispensable skin care product.Still there are some myths and misconceptions about facial oils.
What is facial oil,how does it work?
Facial oils are generally formulated by one or more vegetable carrier oils commonly having light weight texture which may contain a small percentage of essential oils. Hundreds of facial oils are available in the market in recent days.

Now,how these facial oil work on your skin? Don’t they make pimples/acnes on your face?
Facial oils or any other skincare products can be classified as comedogenic and non-comedogenic. Comedogenic products tend to clog the pores of your skin by preventing dead skin cells from being disposed. And these dead cells when mixed with skin’s natural oil and dirt from exposure to atmosphere lead to bacterial buildup and resulted in blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. More clearly, comedogenic oils like Coconut oil,Cocoa butter,Palm oil and flax seed oil might cause pimples by using on face.
Non-comedogenic facial oil like :
  1. Grape seed oil
  2. Rosehip oil
  3. Pomegranate seed oil
  4. Neem oil
  5. Sea buckthorn oil
  6. Jojoba oil
  7. Sweet almond oil
are not going to give you pimples!

It is a myth that facial oils make oily skin even more oily resulting pimples.
Why?
Oily skin is a result of the overproduction of sebum from the sebaceous glands present in our skin cells. Sebum is made of fats. If you try to keep your oily skin by excessive face wash, your sebaceous glands will have a tendency to produce more sebum and you’ll look more oily.
At the same time if you start to apply a tiny amount of facial oil on skin, your sebaceous glands control the over production of sebum by sensing the oil presence on your skin surface. Oil controls oil, that’s it!
Carrier oils and Essential oils
As I mentioned earlier there are pure facials oils containing only carrier oils, and the one which is a blend of carrier oils with any essential oil.
Carrier oils also known as base oils or vegetable oils. These are generally produced by cold pressing or solvent extraction.
Eg: Almond oil,Grape seed oil,Rosehip oil etc.
Essential oils are also natural oils typically obtained from steam distillation and have a strong characteristic odour of the plant from which it is extracted.
Eg: Lemon oil,Lavenders oil,Tea tree oil etc.
You can not use essential oils directly on face. Instead you can mix them with any desired carrier oil by 0.5 to 5 percentage for an adult.
